Teaching methods

In delivering material, the teacher uses lecture and drill methods with the following stages. First, the teacher opens the class by greeting students and praying together. Second, the teacher recalls the material that has been studied before using questions refer to the previous material. Third, the teacher gives new material by explaining and giving an example. After all the students understand the discussion in the new material, the teacher gives the assignment by drilling students with various questions refer to the material has been delivered.

Aside from that, the teacher also gives the additional vocabularies to enhance the students’ speaking ability every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Monday, the teacher only gives the spelling of new words, on Wednesday, the teacher will give the meaning of the words also the example based on its context, and on Friday, the students will have quiz regarding with the vocabularies and its meaning given before.


Learning materials and innovation

As I observed in the class, the teacher’s learning materials are from the student’s text book and any other resources which are related to the topic discussed. The teacher prepares two different materials; grammar and literature for different classes. Literature is for the Diamond class which is considered as the top class at USANT junior high school 10th grade, and grammar (noun modification structure+ dangling and squinting modifier) for Antimony and Silver class. In addition, the teacher also teaches how to make completion speech text to the students. The teacher divides the part by part in completion speech text. In line with this, it is also done because the 10th grade students need to prepare their completion day and every pupil should celebrate it by writing their completion speech and deliver it in front of their friends. In addition, The teacher also has a quick short activity before the class opens. The teacher has already given daily schedule for each student to come in front of the class to choose a proverbs with any topic as the student likes from any sources; it can be offline or online. Then, the student will write the proverbs on the blackboard and deliver the meaning beyond the words in the written proverbs.

Source of learning and technology

The teacher’s learning materials are from student’s text book and another book as long as it’s related to the topic being discussed in the class. The teacher also sometimes lets the students to utilize their gadgets to browse and explore more about the materials taught by the teacher.


Authentic Assessment

The teacher uses authentic assessment based on the students’ assignment during the teaching and learning session, the students’ participations, daily quizzes, and also students’ examination result.
